2014 Bellarine Show
The 2014 and 24th annual Bellarine Agricultural Show takes place on the lawns of the Portarlington Recreation Reserve on Sunday the 9th of March, which is the Sunday of the Labor Day long weekend.
The Bellarine Agricultural Show is a celebration of the best of the Bellarine, featuring the peninsula’s best livestock, produce and products as well as featuring some of the produce, crafts and wares that people in the region have created.
The animals are always a favorite and the show never disappoints with some magnificent creatures on display. Expect to see a wide range of cattle both beef and dairy, horses, poultry and even pigeons. The dog jumping competitions are also another animal highlight with dozens of four legged friends of all breeds battling it out in a range of classes.
Dog jumping is not the only fun activity on the oval, the gumboot toss is also a lot of fun. This event starts at 11:00 AM and also features a decorated gumboot competition. Close by will be a fantastic vintage vehicle exhibition. This will feature not only cars and motorbikes but a variety of classic farm machinery from around the Bellarine Peninsula including tractors, the odd steam driven machine and heritage trucks.
The St Leonards Garden Club will sponsor the Flowers and Floral Design exhibition. Here keen gardeners from around the Bellarine will display their best flowers, plants and floral art. There are many prize categories in what promises to be a stunning display as will be with the home grown produce show where the best fruits, vegetables and eggs will be judged.
Handcrafts are another exhibition not to be missed. This large exhibition hall will feature works including sewing, patchwork, knitting, lace making, woodwork, leather, embroidery and even paper craft to name just a few. Artist and crafts people comes from the breadth of the Bellarine and Geelong region including school children, senior citizens, community groups and individuals.
Kitchen crafts are also featured at the Bellarine Show, there are a wide range of competitions for cookery and even home brewing that has become a very popular hobby in recent years, with some wonderful beers and ciders being produced.
The show will feature plenty of entertainment including carnival rides, petting farms, show bags and pony rides. There will be some wonderful entertainers including Dennis Massould the world champion and sculptor, Andrew Beales a historical story teller and lots of great music.
Put the 9th of March 2014 in your calendar and head down to Portarlington to the Bellarine Show, this is one fantastic family event you will not want to miss.
