2015 Portarlington Mussel Festival
The popular Portarlington Mussel Festival is back for 2015 taking place on Saturday the 10th of January between 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. This year marks the 9th festival that has become one of the premier events on the Geelong region summer calendar drawing upwards of 30,000 people.
The event celebrates the amazing mussels found in our bay and there will be plenty of places to try them. Remember to visit the Portarlington Pier for a box of the freshest mussels straight off the fishing boats; they are juicy and delicious.
The day features a huge festival with entertainment, some great food, much more than just delicious mussels, local wine and beers a large markets, an art and photo exhibition, and even a classic car show.
The kids will have a fantastic day with lots of stalls tailored to them and activities everywhere. There will be face painting and lots of fun entertainment.
Speaking of entertainment, it is sure to be fantastic. some of the sensational names performing throughout the day include the Hip Cats, Jazz Connection, Charli, Dazzling Dan the Magic Man, Soul Sister Swing and Matt Orchard just to name a few of the performers. Chef Rie Vassallo will also be showing her wonderful cooking skills in several mussel cooking classes.
For those looking to use public transport to the event the No 79 bus leaves the Geelong Railway Station at 9:00 AM for the 45 minute ride. The last bus leaves Portarlington at 5:40 PM meeting the 6:33 PM Melbourne Train. There will also be a free community bus travelling around Portarlington on the day.
