2016 Run Geelong
In what has become one of Geelong’s biggest events Run Geelong returns for 2016 on Sunday November 20th for what is expected to be an even bigger and better event than last year.
With 100% of every registration going to the refurbishment of the Geelong Hospital (University Hospital) Maternity Ward this event is not only fun but is helping a great cause. Starting in 2009 and now expanded to five cities around Australia this event initiated by Geelong’s Cotton On has raised over 4.5 million dollars for health services including the Geelong Hospital.
There are a variety of races and it is open to everyone with something to suit all fitness levels. The main race is 12 km in length and it travels through the waterfront and city before heading back to Eastern Park. A shorter 6 km race also takes in our spectacular waterfront precinct and city. There are also a range of shorter races including the very popular 1 km Cotton On Kids run through Eastern Park. For the first time this year there will be music and entertainment along the course of the race that will help coax the runners on and make the race more fun for spectators.
The main race hub will return to Eastern Park just behind Geelong High School after successfully moving to this new location last year. The festive village will feature food and drink vendors, plenty of family friendly entertainment and the award ceremonies. There will also be some fantastic entertainment in the village including a special performance by Aria award winner Samantha Jade who will perform around 11:00 AM.
