2017 Barwon Heads Festival of the Sea
Barwon Head’s Festival of the Sea returns to the thriving seaside village on the weekend of the 15 – 19th of March 2017.
The festival celebrated all aspects of the sea and the Sunday sees the biggest day of the festival with markets, music, food and the hugely popular duck race on the Barwon River.
The free event always draws a huge crowd and has grown from strength to strength since beginning back in 2001.
The main event area is located along the banks of the Barwon River centered around the Barwon Head Bridge. Up river from the bridge is transformed into a huge kids area with games and activities, pony ride, face painting and things to keep the young having fun for hours.
The ocean side of the river features the main event area with band areas, a huge market selling art crafts and interesting goods. There will be some incredible art installations that will feature a nautical and environmental theme plus some very informative displays and exhibitions including some great things to see at the Barwon Estuary Heritage Centre.
The Duck Race draws thousands of spectators who cheer the little yellow duckies as they swim along the Barwon in what is a fun conclusion to the fantastic event and is used as a fund raiser to keep the event going.
