Back in 1844 The Royal Geelong Yacht Club held it first regatta and today some 175 years later the event is not only regarded as one of the first annual saling event held but is the largest annual yachting regatta in the Southern Hemisphere.
This years fleet is sure to look spectacular on Corio Bay with early registrations suggesting it is going to be one of the biggest all out to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the festival.
Once again the main festival days are centered around the Australia Day weekend with the traditional fireworks taking place on the evening of Friday 26th along with much of the free public shoreline fun and entertainment.
The festival will feature some great entertainment including legendary Daddy Cool and Mondo Rock frontman Ross Wilson who will perform Friday on the Regatta Village Stage and one of Australia’s favorite bands Mental as Anything performing on the Saturday night.
Steampacket Gardens will feature a huge marketplace and Friday will see some fun entertainment from the Mik Maks complete with Drums the Panda performing at 3:30 PM and the fabulous Sweethearts of Swing and Nathanile Willamse later in the evening.
Australia Day will also see a flyover by the RAAF Roulettes that are once again returning to the festival after wowing crowds in previous years. They take to the skies over the Festival of Sails around 3:00 PM.
