After the fun and excitement of seeing in the New Year the night before Steam Packet Gardens underwent a huge transformation for exciting and fun filled family celebration- ANZ Family Day on the Waterfront.
The lasers and lights and audio were removed from the massive New Year on the Watefront celebrations, while the huge dance marquees morph into market space and entertainment areas, the stages are cleared of equipment from last night’s bands and refitted for family fun. Then the food vendors, the stall holders, performers and thousands of people turn for a great day in the sun celebrating January 1 of another new year.
ANZ Family Day on the Waterfront 2010 was all about family fun, there was something for all ages, with heaps of fun and some very popular special guests. Over the past few years the likes of Captain Feather sword from the Wiggles, the Hooley Dooleys and even Spiderman have attended. Half Cat from the Geelong Football Club and Supercat from the Supercats Basketball never miss the fun either.
The free fun day also featured markets selling a wide range of homemade and gourmet items, and even some pretty cool hand crafts.
Kids loved the usual animal nursery where they can get up close to piglets, chickens and goats, and there’s usually a good jumping castle or other carnival attraction to play on.
The day featured a full afternoon of entertainment with music, clowns, magicians and dance to entertain all, plus some pretty fun roaming entertainers too.
ANZ Family Day on the Waterfront was the ideal to kick back and get over the fun and excitement of New Year’s Eve. Getting a bit of fresh air, and having fun with the whole family. Many people enjoyed the day with a rug and a picnic, parking themselves on the lawn and watching the day go by- not a bad way to celebrate the New Year.
The last ANZ Family Day on the Waterfront was held in 2010. A new festival called ‘The Pier Festival’ took over New Year’s Eve in 2010 welcoming in 2011 and again welcoming in 2012.
