Sunday the 8th of May is Mother’s Day and what better way to celebrate this special day of the year then to join the Mother’s Day Classic on the beautiful grassy Eastern Beach Reserve overlooking our spectacular Corio Bay.
The Mother’s Day Classic is a charity event to raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation and the event consists of a 4 km and a 8 km walk around the Eastern Park. The event is being held in many major cities around Australia, as well as the Geelong event there will be similar events in the capital cities around Australia plus dozens of regional cities throughout the country.
For those not up to a walk there are will be plenty of other activities for you to enjoy on Eastern Beach Reserve including taking part in a moving memorial wall.
The 4 km walk starts at 8:00 AM while the 8 km starts at 8:30 AQM be sure to turn up early to participate in the memorial and warm ups. Registration is required and closes on Wednesday but there is a on day registration available from 7:AM. For those planning a bit of sleep in there is also a 9:30 race, with all formalities wrapping up at 12:00 noon, just in time to enjoy a picnic on the grass, or even take part in the Mother’s Day Classic BBQ.
There are plenty of prizes to be had, for teams and individuals, and many there are plenty of spot prizes for people just out to enjoy their walk and not really be in it to win it. Kids will have a great day with jumping castles, petting farms and lots of fun activities.
Breast Cancer is one of Australia’s biggest health battles which affect so many families across our country and the money raised in events like this one are making great inroads into amazing new treatments and research into this illness and push towards a much needed cure.
