The B-52s come to Geelong

The legendary B-52s who are know as the world’s greatest party band are returning to Australia this summer for a huge tour and the best news is they are bringing their peculiar and unique mix of fun and music to Geelong’s beautiful Costa Hall at Deakin’s Waterfront Campus in what promises to be the musical highlight of the year, and a huge party atmosphere.

Forming in 1976 in Athens Georgia USA, the band consists of Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson with their amazing beehive hairdos and striking vocals and Keith Strickland on drums and who can forget Fred Schneider with his flamboyant vocals, eccentricity and those cow bells.

The band’s first single Rock Lobster has been a party favorite for over 30 years world wide, and they have had a multitude of huge hits over the years including, Planet Claire, Roam, Love Shack, and Girl from Ipanema goes to Greenland just to name a few, and who can forget that quirky Flintstone’s theme for the movie version of the Flintstones a few years back. They even featured in the new Aliens Vs Monsters film earlier this year.

Although the band has done some touring, some appearances plus the odd one off single, they hadn’t put out a new album for about sixteen years until now. The band has recently released a brand new album entitled Funplex. This was just what the fans needed, it had instant success debuting at no 11 on the US Billboard charts. The album has spawned three great singles so far, Funplex, Juliet of the Spirits and Hot Corner.

As an added bonus performing with the B-52s will be the Scottish folk – pop band, The Proclaimers. These guys are best know for their fun singalongs I’m Gonna Be (5000 miles) and I’m On My Way which have become well loved anthems over the years. The Proclaimers consist of the brothers Charlie and Craig Reid as well as Will Davis and have been one of Scotland’s favorite bands since 1983. This time around the band will be in Australia to promote their brand new album entitled Notes and Rhymes, which features the first single Love Can Move Mountains.
The Intown team recently caught the B-52s live on their US leg of the current world tour at the historic Pabst Theatre in Milwaukee Wisconsin. The packed house saw the band rolled out all their hits including Rock Lobster, Love Shack, Roam and an incredible version of Planet Claire. The band also featured a few new songs from their recently released new album “Funplex” which got a great reception.

Tickets to the B-52’s are on sale now through GPAC- get to it as they should sell pretty well. You might also want to catch the band at one of their Day on the Green performances around some of the country’s best wineries. Other than a one off show in Sydney back in 2004 the B-52’ haven’t performed in Australia since 1990, so these shows will be really special and one of the hottest tickets around this summer.
