The quaint little township of Birregurra located between Geelong and Colac will swell from its thousand or so residents to a huge festival site over the weekend of the 12th and 13th of October where some 15,000 people are expected to visit. Now in its 20th year the Birregurra Festival is regarded as one of the best rural festivals in our region and looking at this year’s program the organisers have taken things up a notch with a great weekend planned.
The festival takes place right in the heart of the village with streets, lanes and parklands around Strachan and Main Street transforming into the festival site.
There are three daily special VLine services from Geelong to Birregurra over the weekend and also special busses from Colac, so for those who don’t want to ride, things could not be easier. Visit VLine’s website for more information.
There will be an incredible music line up with three stages placed around the precinct. Acts like Zoe Fox, Senegambian Jazz Band, The Run, Momoko Rose and kids favorite the Mik Maks are only a few of the great names on the bill. And if that’s not enough there will be roaming entertainment and busking and even a choral show at the local Birregurra Christchurch.
There are two full days of fun with some of the region’s best food and wine on hand, including the ever popular Otway Estate’s bar, vintage cars, dog jumping, art displays, dancing and even a wood chop and returning to the festival will be cow pat lotto.
The program for the young is also impressive not only are the Mik Maks performing as we have mentioned there will be free laser tag, reptile shows, animal nursery, circus performances and a chillout zone for the older kids where they can enjoy some great hip hop from Nomad and some of the region’s newest beats, street art and food and market stalls tailored to the youth.
