Celebrating over a century of tradition Gala Day will return in a new format for 2019 on the evening of Saturday December 14th
The 2019 event will once again take place in the evening, taking advantage of the summer twilight bringing a magical feel to the parade with special lighting and special effects.
The parade has been a staple on the Geelong calendar since 1916 when it was used as a fundraiser for the Red Cross Society. Since 1927 the parade has been ran for the Geelong Hospital and Barwon Health’s foundation.
This year the parade will be held this year within the Eastern Park Gardens where thousands of families are expected to watch the spectacular parade that will feature dances, bands, floats, mascot, celebrities and plenty of surprises. Word is that Santa will even be making a guest appearance in the parade, keeping an eye out for who has been naughty or nice.
This year the parade will also feature a twilight Christmas Market by Piccadilly Market, so it may be the perfect place to pick up that last minute Christmas gift with Christmas Day only two weeks away.
The parade is expected to start around 7:30PM, and as an added treat the fireworks that were postponed a few weeks ago due to bad weather will be set off at the Floating Christmas Tree on Steampacket Quay around 9:15PM.
