Lovers of craft beer will be out in force at the annual Great Australian Beer Festival being held at the Geelong Race Course on Saturday the 16th of February.
This year’s event, now in its 7th year, begins at 1:00 PM and runs through until 8:00 PM and will feature over 30 beer brewers and a wide range of cider producers including some of the Geelong regions best like, Bellarine Brewery, Cockies, Blackmans, Southern Bay and the new Bells Beach Brewing Co. There are expected to be in the vicinity of 200 different beers and ciders to try.
Like always the currency of the festival is token, they can be pre purchased or bought at the venue. This year there is a new three token option that can be exchanged for a full size beer at many of the stands.
Around 5000 people are expected to attend this day of great beer, food and entertainment. The
entertainment looks pretty impressive with The Grand Wazoo, Mick Thomas, Great Gable and over 20 more live acts making for a great day. The grounds will also feature plenty of fun including the traditional keg rolling competition, a special stage from Geelong’s popular Piano Bar plus plenty of food trucks, DJ’s, beer and brewing seminars and plenty of other fun.
Over the last few years craft beer has become a very popular brew, world wide and Geelong certainly has their fair share of great craft beers with a thriving industry from the big guys at Little Creatures and White Rabbit right down to some of the smaller players there are some wonderful local beers.
