The Geelong West Rotary Club’s first Monster Book Fair for 2019 will be held at Geelong West Town Hall on Friday 15, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 March and, as in past years, there a literally thousands of books in a whole variety of genres on offer.
But this year, our book sorters have unveiled not only a host of popular and much read titles, but some some interesting ‘one offs’ that have piqued their interest! “Killer Bras and other Hazards of the 50s” by cult author, Jan King is just one of these more attention-grabbing titles! On the book tables visitors to the Fair will also find titles like “The Australian Dictionary of Insults and
Vulgarities (which rates a 5 star read on Amazon!), Knit Your Own Moustache (4 star rated – yes, seriously) and “Talk to the Hand-The Utter Bloody Rudeness of Everyday Life” (a 3 ½ star must read by Lynne Truss). But unlike Amazon, you can have them all for $1 each!
Club President, Stephen Yewdall explained “Hotels, Pubs & Inns of the Geelong Country District” is another interesting, and more historical title which could also double as travel plan for a weekend of touring our region’s most beautiful country towns”.
All this fun for so little money! Books at the Fair remain $1 for paperbacks and $2 for hardcovers. And there is an added bonus to your spend!
Proceeds of the Monster Book Fair go to a variety of community projects both locally here in Geelong, and farther afield in Australia and the world. So sitting back with some great books that you have purchased from the Monster Book Fair can also change the life of a local Geelong kidney or cancer patient who is able take advantage of the Barwon Health Patient Transport program, a young person in the region who is suffering financial, cultural or educational disadvantage, a homeless man, woman or family, or even a disfigured child in the Asia Pacific region. All these people, and many more, are the ones who benefit from the projects supported by the Rotary Club of Geelong West and whose lives you will change if you buy a book at their Monster Book Fair.
Mr Yewdall said “Our Book Fair is a great way to stock up on your winter reading at great prices, and it has the added benefit of making a positive change in the lives of those in our community who might need our support, and that is a great thing”.
