2020 Pako Festa

pako festa

One of Australia’s biggest and best celebrations of cultural diversity, Geelong’s Pako Festa returns to the Pakington Street West Geelong on Sunday the 29th of February. Attracting more than 100,000 people in recent years, the event dates back to 1983 and each year grows from strength to strength.

The day is a celebration of all the cultures that make up Australia with dozens of community groups representing the four corners of the world in a day of music, food, dance and family friendly fun. The Pako Festa is a celebration of multiculturalism where we can all enjoy the unique things and the common things that bond us.

The highlight of the event is a huge parade that travels down Pakington Street, thousands gather to enjoy a colourful spectacle of music and dance as hundreds of community groups entertain in their incredible costumes celebrating their heritage, many with musical instruments adding to the atmosphere.

After the parade the street and surrounding parks and spaces transform into a giant marketplace offering cuisine from around the world and stages throughout the precinct will feature performances celebrating cultures far and wide from our local Wathaurong people to cultures all around the world.
