Over the past few years Geelong has been known for its incredible Christmas display and it’s hard to believe it’s nearly time again for the city to get into the Christmas spirit and celebrate Christmas 2019.
The celebrations begin with Geelong fabulous floating Christmas Tree returning to Steampacket Quay. This stunning 25 metre, 15 tonne silver cone has been the centrepiece of our city’s display for the last six years and has attracted thousands of visitors from near and wide. The tree will be lit for the first time this season in a spectacular ceremony beginning at 7 PM on Geelong’s waterfront. Once twilight falls the tree will come to life in a stunning light and fireworks show.
The tree and its colourful lightshow will be grace our waterfront until Orthodox Christmas which falls on January the 7th. This year there are three new music and lightship sequences to enjoy, which run for about 6 minutes each four times an hour.
The tree will be positioned a little closer to the shore this year making room for the Docklands ferry service. The tree is sure to be a spectacular sight from visitors entering our waterfront via the ferry.
A new series of stunning projections are also planned for the Geelong City Hall. The first screening will also take place on November the 8th beginning around 9:30PM.
Some of the other Christmas displays around the Geelong city centre will include street decorations, outdoor movies and plenty of new surprises. and word is Santa is making a few special appearances in Geelong leading up to the big day.
