2016 Australia Day at Geelong’s Rippleside Park
Once again Rippleside Park will be the centre of Geelong’s Australia Day fun with thousands expected to flock to the park for a day of free family activities.
Organised by the Geelong Australia Day Committee and the Lions Club this event has been running for generations and every year delights thousands of kids from all around the Geelong region and from further afield.
This year the event looks like it will be bigger and better than ever with over forty different events and attractions to enjoy. There will be face painting, pony rides, petting farms, trucks, tractors and plenty of fun rides. The jumping castle and slides are expected to be a huge hit will be the sheep shearing exhibition and train rides. Many of the local community groups will have displays including some interesting machinery and some great MG vehicles.
There will be a full afternoon of entertainment with some great music and lots of roaming entertainment including the ever popular Dazzling Dan the Magic Man and Dame Edna Average who will have a bag of goodies to give away.
Be sure to catch the official Australia Day ceremonies starting at 1:00 PM. The town crier will start the proceedings followed by a sing along to the Australian National Anthem followed by the raising of our Australian flag. There will be music from the Geelong Memorial Brass Band and a special Australia Day address.
Bring a picnic or purchase some food from one of the many food vendors on site, then kick back under one of the shady trees and enjoy a fantastic Australia Day.
The activities start at 11:00 AM and runs through until around 4:00 PM in the afternoon. There is plenty of free parking on site, but get there early as it will fill up fast.
