2016 Portarlington Mussel Festival
The Portarlington Mussel Festival is back for 2016 and this year it celebrates its 10th anniversary with what will be a wonderful day overlooking Port Philip Bay.
This event is one of the biggest events held on the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula and will draw tens of thousands of people for a day of sun, fun and great food. Last year some 10 tons of mussels were consumed or purchased to take home during the festival and the local fishermen have been busy ensuring the freshest and juiciest mussels are once again on sale for the 2016 event.
Be sure to visit the Portarlington Pier where mussels brought direct from the bay will be on sale at several fishing boats for sensational prices.
As well as succulent mussels there will be dozens of food vendors selling a wide range of delicious treats including fresh seafood and a array of culinary treats from around the world. One food stall not to miss will be the Bellarine Smoked Fish Company, they will feature the most delicious smoked mussels and salmon. Our best wineries and breweries will also be at the festival, so be sure to try their great products.
The 2016 Portarlington Mussel Festival has a wonderful lineup of entertainment, this year the amazing ABBA tribute band BABBA will be entertaining the crowd with a string of ABBA classics. This is sure to be one of the festival’s highlights. The Jazz Connection, Clinton Smith Trio, Sassy Soul Sisters, The Hip Cats and Jimi Hocking are only a few of the great names appearing live at the festival. The parkland will also feature plenty of roaming entertainment and there will be lots of fun and activities for the young.
The festival will also feature a huge market full of great items including art, crafts, specialty foods and of course those delicious mussels.
Be sure to catch Shane Delia, Shane is a world renowned chef and owner of Melbourne’s popular Maha. Shane will be doing cooking demonstrations and he is sure to add his special Middle Eastern flavours to our mussels making for some delicious dishes.
