Barwon Heads is located at the mouth of the Barwon River which winds its way towards Geelong and onto the water catchment areas of the Otways and is home to about 3000 permanent residents swelling by several times over summer. Barwon Heads is about 23 kilometres to the south east out of central Geelong being about a 25 minute drive passing through Belmont, Marshall and Connewarre. You can also reach Barwon Heads through Ocean Grove, heading easterly out of the city via the Bellarine Highway passing through East Geelong, Newcomb, Moolap, Leopold and turning towards Ocean Grove at Wallington.This trip takes a few minutes more but gives a change of scenery for your return trip. The small township is based on a grid system with Hitchock Street being the main retail street and home to many of the townships great cafes and restaurants.
