Williamstown is about 50 minutes drive from central Geelong heading north along the Princes Freeway and turning off at Kororoit Creek Road at Laverton.
Another popular drive is take the Williamstown exit just before the West Gate Bridge crossing, to Williamstown road, but taking a left turn north. Then following Francis street along to the left then Hyde Street to the right. This route takes you under the massive West Gate Bridge and along the coastal hugging Douglas Parade, here you see Scienceworks, the large fuel depots, and just after the Powerstation turn left into North Road and then onto the Strand. The drive takes you a bit longer but there is plenty of sights to see.
Williamstown has a railway station, visitors travelling from Geelong need to catch a connecting train from Newport, Footscray, North Melbourne or Southern Cross Station. The Williamstown Station is a 10 minute walk northerly to the townships major sights. A ferry service links Williamstown with Melbourne’s Docklands and Yarra riverbank tourist precincts and offers some spectacular views along the way.
Williamstown has two major shopping and retail precincts, the major tourist spot is Nelson Place overlooking Commonwealth Reserve and the bayfront which is home to many cafés restaurants, boutiques and speciality shops.
Nearby Ferguson Street and Douglas Parade is also home to some great pubs, cafés and restaurants plus many of the towns services like banks and the like.
