Thousands of people from all walks of life and all ages lined Malop Street amongst the morning sun to remember our service men and women who have fought and served our country. The RAAF Roulettes started the proceedings with a flyover high above Malop Street before hundred’s marched in a colourful parade many in their military uniforms and proudly displaying their medals.
The parade included servicemen and women from the HMAS Ballarat which is stationed at Cunningham Pier for the Anzac Day weekend. Pipe and military bands added some pageantry as the procession headed to Johnstone Park to pay solemn tribute to the fallen in a moving ceremony commemorating what has become Australia’s most solemn and moving day. The huge crowd was addressed by Sqd leader Daryll Topp from the RAAF as well as other dignitaries including the Mayor of Geelong Cr John Mitchell. The remembrance service included a moving minutes silence, prayer and some fitting musical moments from vocalist Jason Coghill.
