Glorious sunshine bathed Geelong for the Geelong Hospital’s annual Gala Day Parade. This year thousands turned out young and old to cheer a colourful procession full of fun. After the parade the entertainment moved to the waterfront for a huge family day with rides attractions and plenty of great food. Gala Day or the Gala Appeal as it is now known, is one of Geelong’s oldest traditional events dating back to 1916 where it was started to raise money for the Red Cross during World War I, the event has raised much needed money for the Geelong Hospital since 1927. This year some of the favorites were TV characters Dora and Sponge Bob Square Pants, The CUB clydesdales, Supercat and his AFL brother Half Cat, a huge Ford Display complete with their very own Stig and a massive fire truck from Avalon Airport. Pipe Bands and plenty of roving enterainment also added a festive atmosphere to this great parade.
