Geelong’s huge weekend of rock.

Geelong shook off the pandemic restrictions to become the rock capital of Australia, hosting two of the biggest names in music all on the one weekend.

In their only Australian show, the Foo Fighters played a stunning show at GMHBA Stadium in Kardinia park in front of a packed house. The evening was warm and there was plenty of rain, but that just added to the atmosphere while over 30,000 people enjoyed plenty of banter from frontman Dave Grohl and a string of their greatest hits, including Times like these as an incredible opening song where Grohl teased and admired the crowd for about 2 minutes before kicking into the song. Other highlights were Best of You, Learning to Fly, My Hero, Monkey Wrench and the final Everlong that was sung amongst rain and fireworks topping off a fantastic night.

Saturday, Mt Duneed Estate was the host of Midnight Oil’s final return. After visiting last year as part of the Makaratta Project, they were back to showcase a new album and set list full of anthems and classics. Like Friday night, there was plenty of rain, but that didn’t stop the huge crowd enjoying the pumping sounds. The show opened with the haunting new song We Resist, before pulling out songs like Back on the Borderline, US Forces, Only the Strong and Beds are Burning, before leaving the soaked crowd with Forgotten Years as their final song for the night.
