Portarlington is about a 25 to 30 minute drive from the centre of Geelong taking the Geelong to Portarlington Road which is an extension of Ryrie Street in the city. It passes East Geelong, Newcomb, Moolap, Leopold, Cerlewis, Drysdale and Bellarine before reaching the lovely holiday resort town.
The Esplanade begins around the Portarlington Pier and takes travellers to Indented Head and onto St Leonards. There is also a road crossing the peninsula linking Portarlington with Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale.
Newcombe Street, which is actually the Geelong Portarlington Road or C123 is home to the townships village with quite a few cafes and restaurants and the Portarlington Pub which is one of the busiest on the peninsula.
The township is basically laid out in a grid pattern behind Newcombe Street stretching from Point Richards in the North West to the Golf Club in the South East.
