The 2001 Pako Festa brought families out in their tens of thousands for a day of multicultural celebration on Geelong West’s Pakington Street. The day started with an amazing parade kicking full of colour, music and excitement featuring dozens of community groups parading wearing beautiful costumes including some amazing national dress.
The parade finished making way for the official proceedings which included some opening words from VIP’s including Mr Brumby from the Victorian Government and a moving welcome from the Wathurung People, our regions traditional land holders.
The afternoon was dedicated to dance, song and music and food, with many cultural groups performing on several stages throughout the festival precinct. Pakington Street became a food lovers paradise with the tents lining both sides of the road selling a wide array of international cuisine from all around the world
