The 2001 Australian International Airshow marked 80 years of the Royal Australian Air Force. Popular planes at this show were a Qantas 747 Jumbo Jet as well a huge turn out of US Air Force planes that amazed the huge crowds with their incredible flying displays. Friday night saw a spectacular night flying display complete with bombing raids, fireworks and the amazing wall of fire.
While the public were entertained over the weekend with lots of in the air action and several great static displays, earlier in the week thousands of trade visitors from around the world came to Avalon to see the latest in aviation technologies, both civilian, commercial and military at the huge trade show.
The airshow is regarded as one of the Victoria’s biggest events with visitor numbers comparable to the Australian Open, Grand Prix and Melbourne Cup Carnival.
