On the 22nd of February 2025, the 43rd annual Pako Festa brought its annual celebration of multiculturalism to life along Pakington Street in West Geelong. The festival, renowned for showcasing the city’s diverse cultural heritage, once again transformed the bustling strip into a lively hub of colour, music, and flavours.
The day commenced with the much-anticipated parade, where community groups proudly marched, adorned in traditional attire and accompanied by rhythmic beats and energetic performances. The spectacle drew large crowds, eager to witness the dynamic representation of cultures from all over the world.
West Park hosted the official opening ceremony, attended by dignitaries including Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, along with local council and state representatives. The speeches reflected on the significance of cultural unity and the festival’s enduring role in fostering inclusivity within Geelong.
As the celebrations continued, Pakington Street came alive with a vibrant mix of entertainment and culinary delights. However, the scorching temperatures proved challenging, leading to an earlier-than-expected wrap-up as organisers prioritised the well-being of attendees. Despite the heat, festival-goers still managed to indulge in an impressive selection of international cuisines, with community-run food stalls serving up authentic dishes from various backgrounds.
While the day ended sooner than planned, Pako Festa 2025 once again highlighted the strength and spirit of Geelong’s multicultural community, ensuring its legacy as one of the region’s most beloved events remains strong.
