After 47 years of touring and 17 visits to Australia Legendary musician Sir Elton John finally made it to Geelong bringing an an amazing greatest hits package to Mt Duneed Estate as part of the Day on the Green concert series.
Elton performed all the favorites including Candle in the Wind, Benny and the Jets, Rocket Man, Your Song, Daniel and Tiny Dancer before finishing with an thumping Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting and Crocodile Rock thrilling the nearly 15000 strong crowd.
The Stage show was spectacular with a huge video wall backdrop and monstrous chandelier that lowered and strobed colours during many of the songs. Throughout Philadelphia Freedom it took on the appearance of a upside down US Capital Building dressed in the American stars and stripes before reappearing a few songs later bathed in gold for an incredible rendition of Yellow Brick Road.
Elton dressed in a sparkly blue suit and sitting behind a black Yamaha grand piano was in great voice as he performed with his super tight five piece band, that included long time members Nigel Olsson and Davey Johnstone.
Brisbane band Sheppard received a great reception as the support act set that featured their huge hit Geronimo.
